Currently the files need to be GIF's or JPG's.

Files need to be under 700 Kb in size.

On upload if the files exceed the dimensions of 640 px wide or 480 px high they will be resized.

A thumb nail of 200 px wide by 15o px tall is automatically created.

Images are held in directories and only a refernce to their file name is held in the database.

Editing the comment or caption you use is available at anytime, this also brings the image to the forefront of the gallery.

Hi David,

May I suggest that you should add PNG to that. 8-bit indexed PNGs are usually smaller than the corresponding GIF, and are now the preferred format.

Is there any means to prevent animated GIFs being uploaded? They can be a real pain in the eyes on a web page -- you only have to look on the boards at some members' avatars and signatures to see how distracting they are.

cheers,

Martin.

The thumbnails are not animated as you can see in the quartehorse I posted. Only when you click on the thumbnail.

Has anyone tried posting one smaller than the thumb?

Perhaps an option to allow full sized images to be retained (if so desired). And can you have individual galleries keyed to specific forums.. i.e. motorcycle, cars, planes, etc.

BTW: Great work on the gallery. :)

Currently members get their own gallery as they upload, Had not thought about allowing them to have seperate sub galleries.

Making a gallery for a specific subject matter like motorcycles, I must confess had not crossed my mind either.

I think both of these suggestions merit careful thought, I will put them into the melting pot for a later version.

Thank you.

Well..  maybe not organize by topics per se... but instead have an option to link the galleries to the forums and when you are under a forum you can access that forums gallery (if it has one... same access restrictions and all)

Instead of just having the gallery access via the menu.

However, I acknowledge many people like member galleries.. this may be an interesting idea for a future edition..

I'll still buy it no matter what. :)

Hello

From chickenchatter.org,   we have the gallery and a few of our members are using it, but it seems that some of the users don't know how to or they don't have the ability to size pictures so they will load.
some say they are using photobucket to re-size pics.  we both know that sucks.
the whole purpose of the gallery at chatter was to get away from the hosted pic sites and all those adds lol

my question is...... is there a program or software that is free that can be downloaded and used to re-size pics. on my members pc's.

i am using Microsoft office picture manager.

any help you can give  on this ?

thanks johnny/jj

Hi Johnny,

Irfanview is free and excellent for resizing. Download from:

http://www.irfanview.com

Here's a handy tutorial about using Irfanview for resizing:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=21614

But I'm a bit puzzled why you need it, as the Gallery itself can do resizing. :?

regards,

Martin.

ok maybe im the one puzzled now. lol

after i noticed the gallery at chatter wasn't being used and

i myself have tried to load pics into our gallery at chatter and have gotten..... a file is to big notice.

i figured when a few members had mentioned they had tried to load pics into the forum and gotten the same notice.  and they had tried to size the pics and failed. they gave up and went back to photobucket.
a few have mentioned that they don't have a program to size pics on there own pc,

that is why im here asking, one guy told me he was gonna buy some program to size pics just so he could use the gallery, an i sure didn't want that kwim.

i personally love the gallery,  but my members well some are searching for ways to size pics so they can use the gallery just because i have asked them to try it.

my understanding is the gallery is setup to have a pic of... as i have mine set to a 640x480 max size. and that is what i was told to set it at to save space not sure where or who i got that info from.

maybe im missing something.  maybe i have something set wrong ?

thanks for all ur help
johnny/jj

The size does not mean the 640 X 480 it means the kn size of the file

You can increase that in the Admin Panel of the gallery..
